About Mrs. Sloate

DIRECTOR

Sheryl Sloate is the Irvine High School director of dance. Sheryl is constantly trying to broaden her dancer's horizons and introduce new elements and styles of dance. She believes that there is a dancer in all of us, and we just need to find a way to bring it out.

Sheryl's love for dance began at the age 5 when she performed in her very first recital. She trained and performed with various local studios throughout Orange County including the Dance Factory, Cypress Community Theatre, and the Yorba Linda Dance Ensemble. While attending Cal Poly Pomona, she performed in and choreographed in a number of musicals and faculty dance concerts. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Dance, she earned her teaching credential in both English and Dance. She then continued her education by earning a Master’s in English and a Master's of Arts in Dance with an emphasis in Dance Education.

Sheryl has taught at studios, middle schools, and high schools.  Her favorite place to teach is here at Irvine High School.  While teaching, she continues to perform, choreograph, and train.  In addition to teaching dance here at Irvine High, she choreographs and helps direct the Performing Arts department musicals.

Sheryl would like to thank her amazing students, the captains and leaders, her friends, colleagues, and loving family for all of their support through her various endeavors.
